Village’s Brush Pick-up Program in Progress
Brush Collection is underway. Public Works crews pick up branches and brush debris that are stacked in
neat piles on the parkway. The Village will conduct a pickup during the first full week of each month
through the week of October 4. The Public Works Department will rotate the order of collection from week
to week so that different areas of town will be serviced first each week. Please be sure that all brush to be
collected is set out prior to Monday of the collection week.

Empty Bowls!! A Community Event to Help Combat Hunger

The basic idea for Empty Bowls is simple. Terra Incognito, along with students from Lyons Township High School, hand craft 1000 bowls.
Event participants purchase the bowls that evening at Terra Incognito, 35 S. LaGrange Rd., and travel to participating restaurants to enjoy a simple food served in that bowl such as soup, stews, ice cream or pasta. Guests keep their bowls as a reminder that there are always Empty Bowls in the world.
22 participating restaurants include: Aurelio's, Baja Fresh, Bella Bacino's, Caribou Coffee, Casa Margarita, DiNico's Pizza and Gelato Uno, Francesca's Belleza, Grapevine, Kama Indian Bistro, Knead Marketplace, LaGrange Art League Gallery and Studio, Magic Wok, Marconi's, Nickson's, Noodles & Co., Palmer Place, Prasino's, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Q BBQ, From Scratch Bakery, Sweetness, Trader Joe's and We're Nuts.

Tea Party with Your American Girl – February 13
The La Grange Area Historical Society warmly invites you to a “Tea with Your American
Girl,” featuring “Rebecca,” from 1914. This takes place on Saturday, February 13th at the
Vial House, home of the La Grange Area Historical Society located at 444 S. La Grange
Road in La Grange. There will be two seatings: 11a.m. and 1p.m. (seating requests will be
on a first come, first serve basis). Sweets and tea will be served. Learn about dolls that
other American Girls have loved; hear a story about Rebecca and what it was like to immigrate to the
United States. This event is for children ages 8 to 11 and the cost is $10 per person. Adult chaperone is required for each family. Please make your reservation and payment by February 6th. Please contact Ellie Carroll at 708-482-4248 with any questions.

Metra Safety Poster Contest
Metra has commenced the 2009-2010 Safety Poster and Safety Essay Contest and this
year’s theme is “Make the Right Choice: Look, Listen and Live.” First Place winners
will receive a Notebook Computer, Second Place will receive a $250 Gift Card and
Third Place will receive a $100 Gift Card. In addition, winning designs will be
distributed to more than 2,000 schools in Northeastern Illinois, featured in Metra's
Safety Calendar, on the contest Web site, in station displays and on monthly tickets.
Metra will recognize the school who submits the most entries in the 2009-2010 Safety
Poster Contest by awarding it a new computer compatible with its current system.
Every school's entries will be totaled after the contest deadline on March 1, 2010 and a computer will be presented to the winning school's principal before the start of the next school year. The deadline for both contests is March 1, 2010. The Village would like to encourage students to participate in the contests to heighten the awareness of important safety behaviors. The Village established an electronic bulletin that is distributed to anyone wishing to be included on the “emailing list”. Similar to the E-Briefs, the Public Safety Briefs focuses only on recent public safety matters. Information provided is timely and helpful to residents but does not compromise ongoing investigations nor does it compromise any individual’s rights. District, the Ice Rink in La Grange Park is up and running! Bring your family
down to Memorial Park to join in on the fun! The 115’ x 65’ ice rink is located
at Sherwood and La Grange Road, across Sherwood from Jewel Foods. A green
“flag” at the site will indicate that the rink is open and a red “flag” will indicate
when the ice rink is closed. For schedule and rules information, go to

The Park District after-hours hot line message will also report skating conditions.

Quiz Night – January 16
The LT Orchestra Parents Committee cordially invites you to QUIZ NIGHT with John
Williams of WGN Radio as the Master of Ceremonies. Join in on the fun on Saturday, January
16th from 7:00 - 10:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, located at 900 South La Grange Road in
La Grange. Tickets are $10/person or $100/table. Gather your friends and join in for an
evening of great fun, food and beverages (pizza, snacks, soft drinks, beer and wine will be
available for purchase) to benefit the LTHS Orchestra. This adults-only evening will test your trivia knowledge and provide a welcome break from the post-holiday blues! Great prizes, raffles and silent auction! Seating is limited so reserve your spot now. Reservations can be made via email at

Tuition Waiver Awards by the University of Illinois - Children of Veterans
At this time, there is a tuition waiver available for children of Veterans living in Illinois. The waiver may be used for any University of Illinois campus. Up to six waivers per Illinois County are awarded each year, one for each of the following conflicts: World War II, Korean Conflict, Vietnam Conflict, Southeast Asia Conflict, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. LaGrange Park Christmas Tree Collection
Once again this year, Allied Waste will collect live Christmas trees on January 14 at no
charge to residents. Trees should be set at the curb on your regular garbage collection
day, and since the trees are composted, they should be free of all ornaments, tinsel, wire,
and other inorganic material. “Flocked” Christmas trees are not accepted during this
