La Grange Park Gets an Ice Rink

The Village is pleased to announce that the Community
Park District of La Grange Park will soon open an ice rink
at Memorial Park! The 115’ x 65’ ice rink will be located at
Sherwood and La Grange Road, across Sherwood from
Jewel Foods. Construction for the rink began this week.
Depending upon weather conditions, the hope is to have
the rink open for Christmas. Opening the facility will require three to four days of below freezing weather
conditions. A green “flag” at the site will indicate that the rink is open and a red “flag” will indicate when
the ice rink is closed. For schedule and rules information, go to www.cpdlgp.org (new website!) or phone
the Park District office 708-354-4580. The Park District after-hours hot line message will also report skating
conditions. That number is 708-354-4580 - extension 300.

New State Law Regarding Cell Phones goes into Effect January 1, 2010

Two new state laws will go into affect on January 1, 2010 that regulate the use of cell phones while driving.

The legislation, meant to discourage distracted driving, prohibits the use of an electronic communication device to compose, send or read an electronic message (e-mail, text message, instant message or internet search) while operating a motor vehicle.

The legislation also prohibits the use of wireless telephones at any time while operating a motor vehicle on a roadway, in a school speed zone, or on a highway in a construction or maintenance speed zone. Drivers under the age of 19 have been restricted from using a wireless telephone at any time while operating a motor vehicle since 2008.
